You better be planning on voting for Manning

Hi I'm Will, I am a Drama Graduate and PGCE Student hoping to become your VP of Education. I have been a student and an active part of the RSU for 4 years, holding roles in societies such as events officer, treasurer and Vice President. If elected, these are some of the points I hope to work on.

Assesments that compliment courses and improve graduate employment - I plan to work with students and programme reps to improve and diversify course assessments. I hope to make sure that all students are getting the best out of their courses and that these assessments will make it easier for graduates to gain employment after their courses.

Continue work for financial support on lower income students attending graduation ceremonies - If elected, I shall continue progress already made on this issue. This will make it easier for graduates who are struggling with payment for tickets and transport costs to attend their own graduations.

Diversify the curriculum - The majority of the curriculum in higher education is not representative of our student population, which is not conducive to a inclusive and empowering  learning environment and in turn comes as a disadvantage to students experience. I plan to make curriculum more diverse and relevant for the unrepresented students at the university by updating lecture content, assesments and reading lists for courses.

Re-inforce no classes on Wednesday afternoons - As I'm sure you're aware, this has been such a useful decision for students so that they can engage in a sport, work on assessments, or just focus on their mental health. However, during lockdown, this was neglected. I plan to make sure this is continued as it is of paramount importance and can help students to no end. This is especially as these past couple of years have affected us all majorly.

Improved communication with programme and department reps - If elected, I plan to work closely with representatives of all the courses at the university. This is to make sure that their voices are heard, that they feel like they are important and that their positions are justified. I also hope that, through this, it will not only help to improve their time at university, but others on the same courses. This will also help them to get the best out of their courses.

Guest speakers that are regular, relevant and representative - Part of my plan, if elected, is to look into getting more guest speakers that are relevant to not only courses, but specific modules from these courses. I also want to bring in guest speakers that students find interesting and cover subjects close to their hearts. I also plan on choosing these guest speakers so that they represent people from all walks of life with different stories and experiences.

Thank you for spending your time reading through my manifesto and I hope that after reading you are... PLANNING ON VOTING FOR MANNING
