Boosting disabled and neurodiverse voices
Hello!
My name is Eleon Clark and I'm running for the position of Students With Disabilities Officer (SWDO).
As a disabled student on campus, I know that university can be overwhelming at times to navigate. There's the issue of accessibility and accomodations, integrating a new routine and schedule, and beyond that, it can be difficult finding a community as a new or returning disabled and/or neurodivergent student on campus. As president and co-founder of the Disabled and Neurodivergent Society, I've done my best to reduce this feeling of alienation, and I hope to do even more as SWDO.
As SWDO, I plan to provide a friendly face you can come to with any issues or queries regarding being disabled and/or neurodivergent at Roehampton. I aim to ensure that disabled and neurodiverse students are considered every step of the way, from application to graduation, and that we are all listened to and respected in between. I'm here to advocate with and for all of us.
My current concrete plans are to establish accessible library and campus tours for new disabled and neurodivergent students, work for online streaming of lectures and recorded lectures to remain available for disabled and neurodivergent students who need it, and, most importantly, to listen attentively to students whose experiences with disability and neurodiversity differ from my own.
Questions? Fantastic! Feel free to email me at clarke1@roehampton.ac.uk, or DM me on Twitter at @eleon_clark.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you'll consider voting for me between March 14th and March 18th.
