Let's achieve the goals, together.
Hello, I’m Fahad Ahmed, a second-year business student at RBS, and running for Southlands College President. Currently working as a Southlands College Community Leader (SCCL) and a Flat Representative. However, I’m the one who’s always bombing with messages in the group chats to inform you about all the events, activities and parties happening on campus, so that you don’t miss any; You remember?
What I did:
- As a College Community Leader, I have been organising and hosting events almost every week, I.e., Film Night, College Tea, Games, Sports, and special events. Below are some key events that turned out with remarkable success.
- Co-hosted “Movie Night with Pizza,” where we have received a massive response from you, and it was a great turnout after the Covid restriction.
- Co-hosted “St’ Valentines Meet-up with SCCLs”, to celebrate Valentine's Day. Referring to the student's feedback, “We loved this event, and want more like this. It was extremely well organised, and we definitely have had some amazing moments during the event”.
- Delivered a solo project to mark “International Mother Language Day – 2022, which was the first time in Roehampton history. I have made a Docufilm “1952: Linguistic Suppression & Language Movement” and hosted an in-person event as part of this project.
- However, I have helped with setting up the “Roehampton Cricket Team”, and currently working on building “Roehampton Bangladeshi Society”, and many more.
Goals:
- As an international student, I'm aware of the language and cultural barriers that international students face at the university. I will be working closely with the academic departments and RSU to provide the best and equal support and opportunities for every student, both for residential and commuting.
- Creating an informal social media platform, i.e., One WhatsApp group chat for all students, where they can promptly drop their queries regarding any issues, and a solution will be provided swiftly by the appropriate authority. However, information of every event and activity on campus will be dropped there, so that you don’t miss anything.
- Will be liaising with the Local Council, and the University to extend the route of Roehampton Shuttle Bus to the Putney Bridge, and to add Asda Roehampton to the route. However, for other buses in the Wandsworth council, I’ll be working to get 50-60% off for all Roehampton Students.
- We all agree that laundry machines are very expensive at the university. I’ll be liaising with the Accommodation to offer a free laundry machine for students who are in need, if not, we will put pressure on them systematically, to cut the price to a reasonable amount.
- Southlands seems to be quite silent and frozen this year. But we are Sharks; had a little nap, and it’s time to break the ice and shout during the weekend parties in the Quad.
I consider this community as my family, and I'm down to do whatever it's needed for the development of the Southlands Community. Elect me as your Southlands College President, and “We will achieve the goals, together”.
