Manifesto

Candidate for the position of Whitelands College President

Aaliyah Hassan

If you want to get it done, make Aaliyah run #Whitelandspresident

Hey!

My name is Aaliyah, and I am running for Whitelands President. I chose to run for this role as I have lived on Whitelands for the past couple of years and have a few ideas to shake things up a bit. As you may or may not know, I have a strong network of links between the student’s union, Senior University staff as well as students from varying demographics. This in turn would facilitate communication between the different departments and ultimately make it easier for us to get the answers we need without an endless email chain!

If elected I will ensure the following are improved:

Communal spaces for off-campus students

I have spoken to many commuting students about this, although there are spaces, they need to be improved and maintained. Whitelands has so much space that can be utilised for various things such as socials, catch ups or just to chill in. Furthermore, I would like to spike an increase in a series of student led social activities, from sports in the quad in the middle of Whitelands, to the use of the field for picnics, get togethers and more!

International and mature student facilities

Over 1/3 of the university demographic consists of international and mature students. I would like to hold more diverse events at Whitelands which would encourage others to come to Whitelands, events such as international potluck picnics to mature students networking and voicing their experiences pre - university and how their fellow students may be able to get into those other fields of work.

Diversity in the cafeteria food

Despite having a good variety of foods on sale at the catering outlets, we still need more diverse and popular food options. For example, I would like to see foods such as Bao Buns and Bubble tea as well as other cuisines being sold on Whitelands.

Campus security to be 24 hours

With an increase of incidents on and around campus, security should be the highest priority, especially on Whitelands, despite being gated, security should still be 24 hours.

Maintenance! ie. WIFI, Washing machines, dryers ect!

So this final point is a complete focus on maintenance. Okay so anyone that lives on Whitelands has probably had at least 1 problem with the: washing machines, dryers or Wi-Fi. With only 10 maintenance staff available for over 2000 students on campus, I will try my utmost to get the university to hire more maintenance staff, so we don’t have to wait a week or more to get issues resolved.

Finally, thanks for taking your time to read through my manifesto points. I hope you vote in this election, whether it is for me or someone else as you get a free 7in dominoes pizza for FREE if you do! PS. if you have ay questions about my manifesto or why I would be good for the role, feel free to email me on Hassana24@roehampton.ac.uk Cheers :)
