Sophie for Whitelands VP - A friendly face, embracing diversity

Hi, I am Sophie and I’m running for deputy vice president of Whitelands College.

I have nearly completed 3 years at Roehampton University as an undergraduate studying Psychology and Criminology and plan to move on to my Masters in forensic psychology next year.

I have spent most of this 3 years studying on Whitelands and I have become very passionate about the college!   Whitelands is an amazing college with a rich history dating back 180 years.  It would be a fantastic opportunity to be able to play a bigger role as part of the college and get more involved with supporting students.

As a disabled student I am particularly passionate about supporting others with disabilities and ensuring that Whitelands continues to be accessible and inclusive for all, making improvements where they may be needed.

I would love to be able to continue to support the traditions of the college whilst also making sure that we modernise where necessary.

I am also invested in helping students concerns over the rising costs of living and student housing, all students should have access to accommodation, food and all essentials without having to stress about how they can afford it all.

Fianlly, I would like to help support societies and social events in happening. Whitelands is a quieter college compared to main campus which is a huge positive. But that doesn't mean we don't want to socialise!

My main aims as whitelands vice president would be:

  • Supporting disabled students and aim to make Whitelands as accessible as possible.
  • Being a friendly face who could offer support to anyone who may need it!
  • Help support the traditions whilst making them more inclusive and modern.
  • Guide students towards financial advice where needed
  • Encourage small events and get togethers for Whitelands students

The winner of Whitelands president was Pathan, and I think her drive to listen to students voices is amazing and I would love to be able to work alongside her in achieving this aim.

When I am not studying, socialising or chatting with everyone’s favourite college dog Minnie, I can often be found out watching ducks, saving newts or talking with the adopted Frobel college cat Missie.

Please feel free to contact me or to stop me to chat if you see me out and about (look for the ginger person, in the massive doc martens, and an ugly Hawaiian shirt and you’ll know you’ve found me)
