This is a Presidency by the students, for the students, and I hope to be the bridge that makes it happen.
Manifesto for Southlands College President
By Syed Abdullah
This Isn’t My Presidency – It’s Ours.
Southlands already has an amazing community, and I’m not here to reinvent the wheel—I’m here to make sure it keeps rolling smoothly (and maybe add some cool upgrades along the way). My goal? To actually listen, take action, and make sure every student’s voice is heard. No fancy political jargon, no empty promises—just real change, driven by what you want to see. This is a presidency for the students, from the students, and I hope to be the bridge that connects us all.
(P.S. If you’re thinking, "Damn, this manifesto is getting long," don’t worry—I’ll keep it snappy from here on out.)
What Matters Most? Let’s Build It Together.
🔹 Better Mental Well-being Support
- Counselling that actually feels accessible—let’s push for more availability and easier booking.
- Stress relief, but make it fun—mindfulness sessions, fitness classes, creative outlets, and maybe even a Southlands therapy dog? Let’s talk.
- Mental Health Week, but bigger and better—student-led talks, open forums, and events that actually make a difference.
🔹 Celebrating Cultural Diversity in a Meaningful Way
- More student-led cultural events—think international food fairs, music nights, and language exchanges that don’t feel forced.
- Cultural storytelling spaces—a place for students to share their backgrounds and experiences in an engaging way.
- Representation where it matters—ensuring all voices are heard and celebrated, not just during themed months.
🔹 Making Southlands More Inclusive for Everyone
- Events that actually include everyone—whether that means diverse food options, sensory-friendly spaces, or non-alcoholic alternatives.
- More awareness and action for disability support—ensuring accessibility isn’t just a checkbox.
- Strengthening LGBTQ+ and faith-based communities—ensuring every student finds a space where they belong.
🔹 More Opportunities for Student-Led Projects & Leadership
- A student initiatives fund—because good ideas shouldn’t die just because there’s no budget.
- More cross-college collaborations—let’s connect Southlands with the rest of Roehampton in meaningful ways.
🔹 Improving Student Life Beyond Academics
- Revamping common spaces—let’s make The Reef and other areas actually inviting (cough.. new paint job cough..) and functional.
(Still reading? That’s dedication. You’d make a great Southlands President yourself.)
A Presidency That Listens & Delivers
I won’t be one of those student leaders who disappears after the elections. If I’m elected, you’ll hear from me regularly—
- Regular student check-ins & feedback forums—because your voice actually matters.
- Clear, transparent updates—so you always know what’s going on.
- Decisions made with students, not just for students.
Why Vote for Me?
Because this isn’t about me—it’s about us. Southlands is already great, but let’s take it up a notch. I’m here to listen, act, and work with you to make our college an even better place to live, study, and just vibe.
This is a presidency by the students, for the students, and I hope to be the bridge that makes it happen.
(And seriously, if you’ve made it this far, you deserve a coffee on me if I win.)
Let’s make it happen—together.
Vote Abdullah for Southlands College President.
