Listen. Advocate. Deliver. That's my Promise.
“OUR VOICE. OUR CAMPUS. LET’S MAKE IT BETTER – TOGETHER.”
My name is Syed Muhammad Ubaid ur Rahman. I am studying MSc Computing, and I am running for Vice President (Welfare).
As a student myself, I believe every student deserves to feel supported, safe, and empowered. No excuses. No exceptions. Here’s my plan to achieve what I believe in:
1) Listen:
Your voice isn’t just a checkbox—it’s the foundation of everything we will do.
“Fix This Now” Forum: A monthly town hall where you call the shots. Bring your grievances, and I’ll turn them into a priority list.
Anonymous Feedback App: A secure platform to share struggles (housing, mental health, discrimination) without fear of exposure.
Amplify Marginalized Voices: Partner with societies like LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and disability groups to ensure no one is overlooked.
2) Advocate:
I’ll be your megaphone to the university, turning concerns into concrete action.
Affordable Student Living: Lobby for rent caps in university housing and subsidies for students in financial crisis.
24/7 Mental Health Hotline: Partner with local providers to offer free, confidential counselling at any hour.
War on Student Poverty: Push for a £1 meal deal in campus cafés and a “Crisis Fund” for students facing eviction or hunger.
Zero Tolerance Policy: Strengthen reporting systems for discrimination, harassment, or hate speech.
3) Deliver:
Promises mean nothing without results. Here’s what I’ll achieve by the end of my term:
Well-Being Workshops: Free weekly sessions on budgeting, coping with burnout, and navigating student life.
Free “Survival Kits”: Stock free period products, stationery, and snacks in every department building
Cultural Exchange Programs: Partner with international and diversity societies to celebrate our differences.
Student Housing Watchdog: A team to inspect rentals, expose rogue landlords, and negotiate fair rents.
No More Silence: Hold the SU accountable with termly public reviews—if they fail, you’ll know.
WHY ME?
I believe student life shouldn’t be a struggle. I’ve experienced how we struggle to get things done. I’ve battled with unfair housing rents, paying fees, and my personal well-being and I will try me best that no other student has to fight these battles.
THIS IS YOUR CAMPAIGN.
Your ideas. Your needs. Your win.
Vote for someone who won’t just hear you—but fight for you.
Let’s turn “promises” into progress.
