Your education mission is Bipasha’s vision!
Dear Roehampton students,
My name is Bipasha, I am a 3rd year Biomedical Science student, and I want to be your VP of Education. I firmly believe university should be an environment where every student thrives – not just survives. My commitment lies in foresting an academic experience that is accessible, engaging and empowering, ensuring that meaningful and lasting changes are made for all students.
My experience & achievements
My dedication to student advocacy and representation is evident through my various leadership roles:
- As the School Representative of Life and Health Sciences, I have actively collaborated with faculty and academic staff to enhance course delivery, ensuring that student feedback translates into tangible action.
- As a Programme Representative during my 1st and 2nd year, I supported with voicing students’ academic concerns in board meetings and striving to bridge the gap between students and university leadership.
- Working as a Student Ambassador since 2022, I have guided both prospective and current students in navigating university life while consistently enhancing student engagement services.
- Additionally, I have successfully organised a charity fundraiser in 2023, raising essential funds for humanitarian aid in Gaza, Syria and Sudan, which demonstrated the power of collective action and compassion.
Key Priorities as VP of Education
If elected I will prioritise 5 key areas to enhance the student academic experience:
- Strengthening Academic Support - I aim to introduce Student Learning Assistants (LSAs) across all courses. This can provide valuable teaching experience to final year students while also supporting first year students with additional aid and demonstrations in workshops, seminars and labs.
- Enhancing Teaching Accessibility – ensuring that all teaching materials are accessible by advocating for all lectures to be recorded with transcripts in multiple languages and expanding hybrid learning options, particularly to support commuting and international students.
- Expanding Careers & Employability Opportunities - by collaborating with external employers across all industries, I aim to introduce micro-internships with certification during employability week. This enables students to gain practical experience and enhance their employability prospects.
- Establishing a Student Appreciation System – implementing an annual recognition programme, celebrating student achievements and accomplishments through award ceremonies, newsletter features and social media spotlights.
- Improving Assessments & Feedback - I plan to advocate for fairer deadlines, clearer grading criteria, and detailed, constructive feedback on assignments and exams to improve students’ academic growth.
