Manifesto- Feasible and Achievable!

Dear Roehampton Students,

I am Alabhya Kumar Tiwari, and I am running to be your next RSU President! Over the past year, I have served as College Community Leader for Southlands College, Student Trustee for the RSU Board of Trustees, and President of the Desi Society. These roles have given me the experience and insight to lead RSU to new heights by addressing emerging student challenges and building on the successes we’ve achieved together.

My Vision for Roehampton Students:

I aim to enhance student engagement, improve well-being, and amplify your voices in every decision that impacts your university experience.

What I’ve Already Achieved for You?

• Organised Student Help Fairs: Providing guidance on academics, mental health, and careers.
• Hosted Yoga & Wellness Events: Supporting student well-being.
• Community-Building Social Events: From themed parties to festive gatherings, Diwali DJ Night, Ramdan Iftar, Holi, Christmas closure events for resident students.
• Advocated at National Platforms: Our work has been recognised, and we were invited to the UK Parliament for the NISAU Awards.
• Eased the Cost-of-Living Crisis: Through subsidised campus events.

What I Will Do as Your RSU President?

1) Tackling the Cost-of-Living Crisis

• Expanding Financial Support: Advocate for more bursaries and hardship funds.
• Better Transport Accessibility: Lobby to bring back 849 bus route to Wimbledon.
• Affordable Social Events: Work towards reducing ticket prices for campus events.
• The Roehampton Marketplace: A student-run initiative for buying, selling, and swapping essential items promoting sustainability and financial savings.
• Working with the NUS: Ensure national-level financial support for students.

2) Enhancing Student Safety & Well-Being

• Continuing Well-Being Wednesdays: Expanding self-care activities.
• Increasing Campus Security: More night security rounds and CCTV near Froebel Forest.
• More Well-Being Events: Expanding yoga sessions, mindfulness workshops, and men’s wellness events.
• More University Counsellors: Advocate for shorter wait times.

3) Academic & Career Support

• Ensuring Student Feedback Reaches Professors: Strengthen digital rep presence and timely response to concerns.
• Ensuring Paid Work Opportunities: Strengthen partnerships for paid placements and internships.
• Launching 'Humans of Roehampton' Social Media Series: Sharing student stories to build a connected campus.

4) Diversity, Inclusion & Sustainability

• Celebrating Diversity: Expand cultural exchange programs and diverse societies.
• LGBTQ+ Inclusivity: Strengthen safe spaces and awareness workshops.
• Improving Disability & Dyslexia Services: Work towards rebranding these services and improving their outreach to increase the disclosure rate among international students. 
• Fixing the Buddy System: Implement better tracking and accountability for mentors.
• Expanding Sustainability Efforts: Introduce a Sustainability Coordinator and host sustainability events in Digby, Froebel, and Whiteland, just like in Southlands.
