WE ARE THE LIONS. There can be no unity without acceptance of diversity. WE ARE DIGBY. #Intersectionality #RaiseAwareness

Hey there! I'm Chantal, probably best known for my intriguing oddness & peculiar hair style. Most of you probably know me as a face behind the counter, serving you that morning refreshment, valid all times of the day!
Despite always having an open-ear and a shoulder to lean on, these past weeks have been spent walking around campus with the aim to hear some of you first-hand on what YOU want, like & need. This was truly an eye-opener for me. I learnt lots about other parts of campus-life & accommodations– things I would have never considered or known of had I not asked. The following are only a few of the points I gathered that I felt are of most importance.

What we need:

  • A library that’s opened 24/7;
  • Food waste bins (if we’re going to recycle/be environmental friendly- might as well do it right!);
  • How does Newman not have recycling bins?!;
  • Newman Maintenance & Renovation;
  • A Common/Social Space for Newman & Bede;
  • More laundry rooms around campus (especially for Elm Grove, Lee House & Shaw House);
  • Cheaper accommodation fees;
  • A more efficient, faster, responsive & responsible Maintenance Team;
  • A reduction in early morning fire alarms / having them later in the day;
  • To fix Shaw’s elevator (keep being wheelchair friendly) & bring back their benches;
  • Maintenance & Renovations in Shaw (showers, heaters, windows, silverfish epidemic, etc);
  • To have The Shop open weekends (and The Hive)– at least for 3-4hrs;
  • To promote group outings, i.e. adventures to ASDA (or other food related venues), journeys to the cinema, trips to Richmond Park (to hang or even just for a pleasant walk), etc;
  • More vending machines;
  • A wall dedicated to all forms of expressive art(s)!;

BOP:
  • An increased variety in BOP themes;
  • More lighting to & from BOP  #Safety;
  • Lower BOP fares;

Diner:
  • Fix the noisy door;
  • Get a microphone;
  • A TOILET;
  • Bring Digby Strip back;

Security:
  • A system that actually makes us feel safe;
  • Staff Members that are more equipped and quicker to the ‘crime scene’;
  • More considerate & informed Staff Members;

Thank you to those who shared & invested your time in talking to me. Everything has and WILL BE taken into consideration. I am ready to fight & push for YOUR VOICE whenever and best I can.

Every voice counts. Every opinion is important. WE. ARE. THE. LIONS.

We are not just “Gay”, “Straight”, “Black”, “White”, “Muslim” or “Christian”– we can identify with ALL, SOME or NONE. We need to stop categorizing & segregating ourselves and our identities.

There can be no unity without acceptance of diversity.
WE ARE ELM GROVE. WE ARE SHAW HOUSE. WE ARE NEWMAN. WE ARE LEE HOUSE. WE ARE BEDE.
WE ARE DIGBY.
