My First Month At the RSU
Adam Fewster, VP Welfare
This is certainly something then; writing my first monthly blog post for the Roehampton Student Union. All I can say is what a month it has been! From meeting the incredible RSU team, to learning all new valuable skills and insights into how the student union is run and what we want to achieve and making sure YOU, the students are being represented to the fullest.
Throughout the month I have attended many meetings with various people within the RSU and the University including, University Senate, Citizens UK, Student Societies, the Vice Chancellor and most recently NUS (National Union of Students). These introductory meetings have been a fantastic way to meet the key people I will be working with to help create change for YOU!
NUS Lead and Change – What an experience this was. Meeting Sabbatical Officers from up and down the country was so helpful. We discussed ways to help YOU feel represented and found new ways to get over any challenges that might arise during my time being YOUR VP Welfare. During the time in Birmingham, we had various training regarding how to utilize my position to make change, knowing how to effectively listen to problems and being adaptable in different scenarios. Meeting other SABB’s allowed me to ask questions and gain valuable insights into how we can make YOUR experience at roehampton as best it can be and by making sure you are represented to the fullest.
Moving forward to what I am planning on doing this year, all these valuable training sessions and interactions has made me think about what my key objectives are for this year and I am still finalizing some key details as well as still finding out what would be the process in which these objectives would need to have in place to make sure they are achieved to the greatest possible extent, and most importantly that YOU the students are going to be benefiting from them.
Amy, Laura, and Sharon – Thank you for everything, and I hope I do you proud and carry on your legacy here at the RSU.
I cannot wait to welcome our new and returning students in September and get to know you all better throughout the year ahead. We have been working hard to make sure that we can make this year the best possible experience for all of you. BRING IT ON!
