Imran September Update

Imran, your RSU President, has his September update for you

Triumphs, Transitions, and New Horizons

Dear Students,

I am thrilled to announce that our training is officially complete, and we have had our final sessions.

I am also delighted to share that we now have a fully established trustee board! We recently held our first trustee board meeting, which I had the honor of chairing. We welcomed a newly appointed lay trustee and three new student trustees, who will be instrumental in guiding the RSU in financial decisions and ensuring a diverse student perspective is represented.

As President of the Student Union, one of my key responsibilities is to sit on various university committees where important topics affecting students and their overall experience are discussed. Recently, I had the privilege of attending the Estates Management Committee, where issues such as safety, security, catering, and accommodation were on the agenda. I raised several student concerns, particularly regarding safety and catering, and I’ll be following up on these in the coming weeks.

I also participated in the Student Leadership Training and had the opportunity to meet our new student leaders. We have an exceptional group this year, each eager to make a meaningful impact. I’m excited to support them as they work toward making real change within our community.

Another highlight of my time as president was attending the graduation ceremony, where I had the honor of congratulating students. It was an unforgettable experience to deliver a speech and carry the mace, but more importantly, to witness the smiles of joy, pride, and accomplishment on the faces of the graduates—each one a testament to their hard work, late nights, and perseverance, often far from home.

In addition, Adam, Irene, and I had the pleasure of welcoming new students from different colleges on their first day. It was a wonderful opportunity to let them know that we, the RSU, are here to support them and introduce them to the services and events we offer.

We also had a Senate meeting in the middle of Freshers' Week, which was not the most ideal timing, but it was an important meeting nonetheless. For those of you familiar with my previous blogs, you will know the significance of Senate. I was proud to present the RSU report to all Senate members.

College cup was another success where Irene, Adam and I participated but I would like to take a moment to congratulate Adam for his brilliant initiative, the College Cup. It was a huge success, with fantastic feedback from students. Well done, Adam! I am looking forward to seeing what’s next.

Lastly, I can not talk about Freshers' Week without saying what a blast it was this year! We had an incredibly engaged and curious group of students. Freshers' Week kicked off on Monday 23, and ended with an amazing silent disco on Friday night. The turnout was fantastic, and we were thrilled to see so many students joining in the events and activities.

Thank you all for staying involved and engaged. We look forward to continuing our work on your behalf, keeping you updated on our progress and upcoming initiatives.

Until next time!
