August: Building Momentum and Strengthening Connections
Dear Students,
As we continue to settle into our roles, August was a busy and productive month filled with planning, learning, and collaboration. Preparations for Freshers' Festival 2024 are well underway, with a dedicated conference at RSU to ensure an engaging and welcoming experience for all incoming students. We also participated in a valuable training session by Dows focused on trusteeship, leadership, and democracy, equipping us with the insights needed to better serve you.
We had an away conference at the Imperial Student Union, where we shared our plans for the next year and discussed the overall goals of the SU. We met with college presidents and their deputies to understand their priorities for the upcoming year, as supporting and aligning with the needs of our colleges is crucial. We also had a photoshoot while refining our plans for the year ahead, not just about visuals, but to outline our objectives and the steps needed to achieve them.
Great news for those of you looking for part-time work! Following a productive meeting with Julie Powell, we are excited to announce a part-time job fair in October. Irene and Adam have been hard at work on an international pre-arrival pack to better support incoming students, and we had a meeting with Jacinta Oliver, Senior Quality and ASFS Officer, who is working on a similar project to ensure our efforts are aligned.
We also met with Tom, the COO of the university, sharing our objectives and receiving strong assurances of support from him and his team. Training at Royal Holloway Student Union was another highlight, where we joined local sabbatical officers for a day of learning and networking, building stronger connections with other unions.
Lastly, we completed another round of training on 30th August with Dows on campaigns, lobbying, and advocacy, which will help us effectively champion your needs and interests throughout the year.
As always, we are committed to keeping you updated on our progress and initiatives. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work on your behalf.
Until next time!
