Irene the Vice President Education updates you on new initiatives and exciting times ahead.
1. Wellbeing Wednesday Webpage Launch
As of 5 February, we've launched our official Wellbeing Wednesday Campaign page, courtesy of the Vice President Welfare, Adam Fewster, and I. Here, you'll find all the details about Wellbeing Wednesday, along with a list of activities you can get involved in such as the following:
- Chat to a SABB
- Mindful Monday
- Beautifully Neurodiverse
- Active Bystander Training
- And many more to come!
2. The February Intake & Green Week: A Week of Sustainable Fun
In February we welcomed a wonderful new cohort of students to the campus who also happened to arrive during our Green Week! During this week we had some great activities including mindfulness sessions, documentary screenings, our Green Fair, Give-it-a-Grow sessions, litter picking, Slow Ink workshops and a grand finale at the Wetland Centre!
3. EAL Placement Partnership: How can we support our students with EAL?
I've been working with the University to implement English as an Additional Language (EAL) Placement Partnerships at Roehampton by January 2026*. The goal is to engage students on English and Education courses, and to deliver weekly English lessons to at least our EAL students, resulting in an overall improvement in their English proficiency and confidence while fulfilling 100% of participating students' work placements requirements.
Small Scale Trial Placement: A Great Start
Two talented students are set to begin their placements on the English for Academic Practice Module. Although this wasn't part of the initial plan, it's a wonderful opportunity for mutual benefit among students needing additional English support.
Looking forwards: More Opportunities Ahead
I'm actively exploring ways to provide more English language support. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out. Joining a society or sports team is also a fantastic way to improve your conversational English while having fun—check out our societies page for more info!
4. Elections
I am very grateful and honoured to announce my re-election as Vice President Education for the second consecutive year! First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has and have continuously supported me throughout my first year in office and during the elections.
I would also like to extend a warm congratulations to Joshua and Sammy on their new roles, that they will begin at the end of June. I look forward to working with them and to another successful year of advancing student interests!
5. RSU on Tour: Digital Rep Edition
Each term we head out onto campus to speak to students with the goal of gaining a better understanding of campus life. For this term's RSU on Tour, we aimed to encourage students to use the Digital Rep platform to voice their opinions and provide feedback on the changes they wish to see implemented within the university community. This initiative empowered students to express their concerns and suggestions through an online survey, ensuring that their voices were heard on the issues that matter most to them!
During RSU on Tour, student representatives, subject area reps, and school reps actively engaged with their peers, facilitating meaningful discussions and gathering recommendations for improvement. The feedback collected during this week-long campaign undergoes thorough review and analysis, shaping future initiatives and informing discussions with senior staff members of both the university and the Students’ Union. RSU on Tour in February provided a pivotal opportunity for students to drive positive change and contribute to enhancing the university experience for all members of the community! 😊
