March Recap: A Month of Action and Celebration
As March comes to a close, it's time to reflect on the exciting events and initiatives that have been buzzing at the Roehampton Students' Union (RSU). From celebrating International Women's History Month to hosting community events, this month has been all about growth and engagement, while leaving room for lots of reflection and planning for the upcoming academic year!
International Women's History Month: #AccelerateAction
March was a fantastic opportunity to honour women worldwide, and the RSU jumped into action with a series of events that truly made a difference. We organized a period poverty pop-up, an awareness campaign, a visit to the parliament with MP Fleur Anderson, and even a treasure hunt that brought everyone together! If you missed out, you can catch up on all the details on the RSU website.
Be-Well Network Event: Building Community Together
Early in the month, we hosted our first Be-Well Leaders Event, bringing together incredible organizations like the SW15 Women’s Network, Citizens UK, Chronically Marvelous and many more! The goal? To collaborate, share best practices, and refresh our training so we can better support you! We're excited to work with these organizations in the coming months to create more opportunities for volunteering, skill-building, and community events that bring us all closer together.
Democratic and Academic Representation Review: Shaping the Future
As the academic year winds down, our team has been working hard at work, reviewing our Student Academic Representation System and Democracy Structure. We dove deep into what worked, what didn't, and what changes we want to make for the upcoming year. We also conducted a comprehensive review of our Student Academic Representation System, gathering feedback from students, schools, and stakeholders. The result? A new and improved system shaped by your input, coming soon!
New Roles on the Horizon: Membership Engagement and Communications
This month, I was part of a panel interviewing candidates for two vital roles: Membership Engagement Manager and Communications and Brand Manager. These positions will be key in expanding what we can do for our members (aka you, the students) We're super excited to welcome fresh perspectives that will strengthen our services and to be able to have the ability to expand on what we can deliver and do for you!
Varsity 2025: Roehampton Takes on Buckinghamshire
In early March, the Sport and Active Community hosted the annual Varsity event against Buckinghamshire New University. It was an absolute blast watching our teams compete, from netball, badminton, football and all the rest! Our teams did an amazing job, and we couldn't be more proud!
Incoming Officer Meet & Greet: Welcoming the Future
This month we also started the process of onboarding our new Sabbatical Officers for the 2025-2026 academic year, Joshua Kayode (RSU President) and Sukhpreet Singh (VP Welfare)! They will both begin their term on July 1st, with a handover period in the last weeks of June, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming them to the team.
Happy Spring!
As the weather warms up, we're ready to dive into new adventures and opportunities. Thanks for being part of our journey, and here's to an amazing April! Also check out my article on Library Resources, Study Spaces and How to Ace This Exam Season!
