Get Ready for Wellbeing Wednesdays: Your Midweek Boost Coming Autumn 2024!

Hey Roehampton students! We have some exciting news that is going to shake up your weekly routine and give your wellbeing a major boost. Starting from Autumn 2024, we are introducing Wellbeing Wednesdays - a game-changer for your university experience!

What is the Big Deal?

Picture this: Every Wednesday, from 12:30 PM onwards, you will have a guaranteed break* from all mandatory academic activities. That is right - no lectures, no seminars, no compulsory labs. Just pure free time for you to focus on what matters most - your wellbeing!

Why Wednesdays?

Imagine hitting that midweek slump and knowing you have a dedicated afternoon to reset, recharge, and reconnect. Whether you are looking to sweat it out on the sports field, get creative with a society, or relax at a wellbeing workshop, Wellbeing Wednesdays have got you covered!

Additionally, as many sports students are aware, with mandatory lectures taking place on Wednesday afternoons’ it prohibits you from attending away fixtures – with no mandatory academic commitments on Wednesdays this means you will not only be able to attend your fixtures, but your teams will be able to grow as more international students will have the opportunity to get involved!

What is in Store?

  •  Get active: If organised sport is not your thing, in partnership with Sport Roe, we have been planning for more informal sport fixtures and classes to take place such as Yoga, Pilates, Self-Defense and so much more!

  • College Cup: Every last Wednesday of the month, all four colleges—Digby, Froebel, Southlands, and Whiteland's—will compete in a variety of different events. Students will display their skills and teamwork throughout the year, bringing each other closer together and bringing on the college spirit! The College Cup Kickoff (25th September 4:00-5:00pm on Library Lawn) is only the first of many Colleges Cup events that will take place this year, so be sure to join us to see what is in store for the academic year! At the end of the year, a trophy will be awarded to the college with the most points accumulated during the events, adding an extra layer of competition and motivation for all participants. The point system works as followed:

  • 1st – 100 points

  • 2nd – 50 points

  • 3rd – 25 points

  • 4th – 10 points

  •  Wellbeing Workshops: Learn strategies to boost your mental and physical health!

  • Wellbeing Team offerings: In partnership with the Wellbeing Team, we plan to deliver different workshops, including mindfulness classes, stress management and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) coping skills, and much more!

  • Online workshops: If in person workshops aren’t your thing, we will be posting a monthly blog post outlining tons of online workshops and resources such as breathwork classes, yoga, meditation and more!

  • Creative workshops: Sip & Paint & Open Mic Nights at The Hive

  • Dive into your favourite societies: Explore new interests or dive deeper into your passions, while making new friends and making memories to last a lifetime
